Xcode running "Empty Window" app gets system integrity protection

I was trying the first Xcode project/example (chapter 6: Empty Window) from "iOS 9 Programming Fundamentals with Swift" by Matt Neuberg. The simulator opens up, shows a progress bar, but then gets something like "couldn't attach to process due to system integrity protection". Searching suggests turning off the protection, but I'd like to stay legal/normal. What should I do to get the project to run? Thanks.
