Will Thompson's "Building the Perfect PC" ever be updated? It's gotten pretty long in the tooth...

I used it to build my current PC, but the book was written in 2006, and I'm ready to upgrade.

Excellent book, by the way. Consider changing it to a quarterly magazine format containing one type of PC with each publication.

  • Am happy to see that a 3rd Edition of this book is scheduled for November 2010, but it has been a long wait since the 2nd Ed. which I used to build an excellent PC.

Given the speed of hardware change, I like the idea of a quarterly or semi-annual supplement of some kind where you would buy, say, a two-year subscription, with each issue focussing on a single type of PC, like one chapter from their book. Then, readers wouldn't have to wait four years for topics like eSATA or USB 3.0 or Core i7. Might be easier on the authors, too.

    Any chance of that happening?

  • Hi Bonz and Ivan,

I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to another edition of Building the Perfect PC. Thanks for your suggestions about keeping this information up to date. While we don't have plans for a subscription model, we will strive to be more timely with releasing future editions.

    Have a great day!
