why does ePub I downloaded cause a page error?

I just purchased and downloaded the ePub version of Microsoft® Office AccessTM 2007 Inside Out. The sony reader software app opens it fine, but the sony reader PRS-600 generates a page error and will not open. I have tried redownloading. I actually formatted my reader and re-synced all ebook (all ePub format) and same result. It opens in the sony reader app on the desktop fine. All software on reader is up to date and I'm using windows 7 professional. It's up to date also. If you have a suggestion or an idea how to fix issue, please contact me at jim.mazzarelli@gmail.com (I'm Jim) Thank You!

  • Hi Jim,

I took a look, and the problem was with the ePub we supplied, not with the Sony Reader. The Sony Reader has a restriction that all HTML files in the ePub be less than 300 KB, and the Microsoft Office AccessTM 2007 Inside Out had one file that was over 800 KB.

I've fixed the ePub file and reloaded the corrected version to O'Reilly.com, so you should be able to download it by logging into your account.

Please let me know if you run into any trouble downloading the new ePub or running it on your Sony Reader.

    Thanks,
    Sanders

  • I have a page error too but on a Sony PRS-300 and in 'C# 4.0 in a Nutshell, Fourth Edition'. The error occurs when I access the Index (which has a lot links in it).

  • Hi John,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention as well, and apologies for any inconvenience. The index file for C# 4.0 in a Nutshell, Fourth Edition, also exceeded the file size restriction for the Sony Reader.

I've fixed the problem and reloaded the corrected version to O'Reilly.com, so you should be able to download it by logging into your account.

We're currently working on making some improvements to our ePub generation toolchain to better ensure that our ePubs are compatible with the Sony Reader, so that you won't encounter similar issues in the future.

    Best,
