Where's my caps lock indicator?

I have windows vista installed on a dell Inspiron. There are no indicator lights on the keyboard for things like capital letter lock. It has disappeared from my desktop and I can not figure out to get it back. Also, is it possible to have it indicated in the taskbar along the bottom of the screen instead of on the screen as it was before?
I can't find an answer in the Windows Vista Missing Manual.

Can you provide more information on your specific Dell Inspiron model?

After looking online, there seem to be a number of reported problems relating to Dell Inspirons and Caps Lock indicator issues. Knowing your exact model may help narrow down the possible solutions.

  • Hello,

Thank you for providing the model-specific information. After looking on Dell's forums, there does appear to be a number of reported problems with the QuickSet software on those Dell Inspirons. The problems range anywhere from the system minimizing programs when CAPS LOCK is toggled, to forcing a pause in computer activity for a few seconds.

While I couldn't find any specific information relating to the indicator light not lighting up, it sounds like it could possibly be related to the bugs in the QuickSet program.

Forum threads such as this one (http://en.community.dell.com/support-...) recommend a few different options, such as reinstalling the QuickSet software or evaluating the settings for your keyboard by going to Control Panel > Keyboard.

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers,
