What is Piracy?

Hi guys,

I need some clarification regarding what piracy is. I know it's pretty straightforward, however people will argue to the death before admitting that they are pirating software/ books.

So my question rephrased in a real life event: If I buy an O'Reilly book (Printed or Electronic), am I allowed to share it with my family and / or my colleagues?
And: Is it legal for my company buys these books and then to make it available to its employees?

    Hi Colin,
Sharing a print book with a friend or colleague is totally acceptable of course. We feel like ebooks should be treated much the same way a print book is. i.e. if you want to lend it out to a family member, friend or colleague, we ask that you have them delete it when they are finished with it so it's "returned" to you.

As to the second question, yes, it is possible for your company to purchase a site license for multiple copies of an ebook so that your colleagues can benefit from them as well. If you would like to do so, please drop us a line at:
orders@oreilly.com and we can point you in the right direction.
