  • Hi Keith,

The most recent edition of Switching to the Mac is Switching to the Mac, Leopard Edition. The previous edition was Switching to the Mac, Tiger Edition.

Leopard, version 10.5, is the newest version of Mac OS X.

Tiger, version 10.4, is the previous version of Max OS X.

You can check which version of Mac OS X you have by going to the Apple menu > About this Mac

You can see in the image above, in the open About this Mac window on the right side, that my Mac is version 10.4.11, which is Tiger.

I'm guessing that you also have version 10.4, but you have the Missing Manual for version 10.5 (Leopard).

If you bought the book through oreilly.com see our 100% satisfaction guarantee page for instructions for returning the book, so that you can get the appropriate version. Otherwise, I'd recommend exchanging the book with the retailer.

Let us know if you have more questions.

    Thanks!
