Suggestion about a book for a wannabe web producer

Hi all, I'm wondering if there's any book for web producers.

I'm searching for something that gives a brief understanding of the web to someone that's new to the market.

Thanks! :)

  • Hi Patrick,

Great question! As a web producer and developer for O'Reilly, I've got some recommendations for you.

I think the very best book for getting started is Learning Web Design. If you're interested in learning frontend web development, it will get you there, but it's a really great book because it starts with the fundamentals of how the web works, teaches you important concepts and vocabulary, introduces tools, and moves on from there.

I think the first three chapters will give you a good foundation, and then you can move through other topics as you need them.

The HTML chapters will also be really useful to you for web production, as will the section on creating web graphics. I imagine you may not need the CSS and JavaScript sections, although you might find them useful.

This should really get you started, and if you find you want to move forward with learning more about web development, some more books you might consider are:

    HTML5: The Missing Manual
    CSS3: The Missing Manual
    HTML5 & CSS3 for the Real World
    Head First HTML5 Programming
JavaScript and jQuery: The Missing Manual
