  • Hello slpctec--

I'm Chris Grover the author of Flash CS4 The Missing Manual. Sorry you're having trouble with that ActionScript 3 exercise in chapter 11. Without seeing your code and your FLA file, it's a hard for me to pinpoint what might be going wrong. I've got a couple of quick and easy suggestions. If those don't work, I'll add a link where you can find a working example that you can download.

In this exercise, ActionScript doesn't create the rectangle. You have to draw one on the stage and name it in the Properties panel. Once you have a named rectangle you can modify it using AS3 code.

To see the rectangle move, you can't just Enter (Return) to Play your animation in Flash. You need to go Control->Test Movie. The shortcut keys are Control->Enter (Command-Enter on a Mac).

Here's a web page where you can check out the working example and download the FLA file that's behind the animation.

Thanks Chris I cant seem to figure out what went wrong but for some reason after seeing your download I saw my project was constructed the same as yours. But thank you for helping me.I think Adobe is Awesome and Flash is particularily great.I'm an aspiring web Designer and Flash is the way to go in my opinion. That is the big reason I'm learning Flash so I really appreciate you answering my Q!
