Setting up for Data Analysis from the Command Line

Is it possible to get more complete/clear instructions for installing the software mentioned in the book? I am running Windows. I have some experience with virtual environments but not a lot. The instructions in the book (Data analysis at the command line) say "install virtual box for your system" and "install Vagrant for your system" and then you're set. Don't I need to install Linux into my Virtual Box? And then do I install Vagrant for Windows or install it into the virtual Linux system? Any detail is appreciated. I am really excited about moving from my stats software to these new techniques. Thank you.
