I’m sad

Rbrowser connecting on Mac

I'm working through Chtr. 3 in the Creating a Website book, 3rd edition. I'm stuck on page 72-75. I bought my domain name and hosting service through godaddy.com and downloaded the Rbrowser FTP program. I'm trying to upload the resume5.htm and leepark.jpg files to my website.

When the Rbrowser app opens, I type in the Host/URL box: "ftp.WEBSITENAME.com"
and then type in my log-in info from godaddy into Rbrowser's username and password fields. I then get an "Alert" stating...

/Users/MyName/Library/Application Support/RBrowser4/ftp:/WEBSITENAME.com@MYEMAILADDRESS@FTP.rbd is damaged, cannot open

Can anyone offer any help?

  • I also downloaded BlueGriffon and its FireFTP extension. Same problem occurs.

My account name is set to
    http://www.MYWEBSITENAME.com
(this is in the top left corner, drop-down)

I then click "Connect" and it ask for my username and password. I then enter my username and password that I use to log into godaddy.com and click ok.

The bottom text box of FireFTP then displays this...

    220 Microsoft FTP Service
    USER "MYUSERNAME"
    331 Password required for "MYUSERNAME"
    PASS (password not shown)
    530 User cannot log in.

Please tell me what I am doing wrong!

  • Hi Jared,

You may need to follow up with GoDaddy to troubleshoot this issue. However, before you get to that point, take a look at the GoDaddy FTP support documentation at http://support.godaddy.com/help/artic... . It looks to me like your FTP client needs to use a URL in the form www.WEBSITENAME.com (or ftp://www.WEBSITENAME.com) rather than ftp.WEBSITENAME.com, which is what you have now. Every web host is a bit different, however.

    Hope that helps,
    Matthew
