Pogue's book is a ripoff.

On page 382 of "Mac OSX Snow Leopard" it says "A basic getting-started chapter for these programs awaits, in free downloadable PDF form, on this book's "Missing CD" page at www.missingmanuals.com." THIS IS NOT TRUE. The book is not worth the price, because apparently you need to buy at least 2 more books to use everything in OSX. I would return this book if I could, and I sure won't buy any more from O'Reilly.

  • Hello, Mitch. I am very sorry that you have not had a positive experience with the Snow Leopard book. With regards to the reference on p. 382, it refers to the PDF under Chapter 10 on the Missing CD page for this book: http://missingmanuals.com/cds/macxsno....

This PDF is written for iLife '08. (iLife actually is not part of OS X, but a suite of applications that ships on all new Macs.) If your concern is that you have iLife '09 on your computer, my sincerest apologies. We do not yet have an "iLife Crash Course" posted for the '09 version. However, the functionality is very similar, and we hope to update the "Crash Course" soon.

If you are having difficulty locating the appropriate file, or your concern lies elsewhere, please let me know. I would be happy to communicate with you directly. It is very important to us that you are happy with this or any other O'Reilly book. As Nancy indicates above, we do have a 100% satisfaction policy.

    Best regards,

    Chris
