  • Hi Jason,
going through the PDF of that book, I don't actually see a mention of the specific version of OS that it's covered. The book is mostly about App development (so far- it's not fully released yet) and doesn't get into specific OS details. This may change of course as the book is still in the process of being completed.

  • Hi Jason,

Thanks for your question and interest in the book (I'm its editor). We're doing our best to make the book as version-agnostic as possible, but we realize how difficult that is with such a fragmented OS. But generally, the book focuses on app development principles that apply to all versions and does not rely too heavily on features of any single version. That said, the author is testing against as many current versions in the wild and will to to make sure they run on everything up to version 2.3 (or later, of another version is released before the book).

    Thanks,

  • The current prerelease focusses on Android 2.2, in fact some of the screenshots and text are already out of date for people using the Android 3 ADK (different menu locations, things like that, nothing that can't be worked around).

I've suggested several errata based on those differences, we can only hope they'll make it into the final release (or at least the final release will mention that things might be in different places when using different ADK and Eclipse versions).

  • Hi Jason,

Yes, the book has been in development since before the release of the Android 3 SDK, and the author has been working on new material before returning to the earlier chapters to update them. The final version of the book will incorporate these changes and take into account any other errata supplied by you and other readers.

    Thank you for your feedback.
