No ePub versions of many books; PDF -> ePub conversion?

I have bought many books from you over the years. Now, I want to update to the latest editions of many of them, without killing trees along the way. My intent is to get an iPad and move my library there. Unfortunately, many of the books I want seem to only have PDF versions available, not ePub. I really don't want to have to use a separate application to read some books, while others are handled natively by the device. Ideally, you'd release ePub versions of these books. Failing that, is there a *good* PDF -> ePub converter that you could recommend that would not leave any functionality (links, etc.) out of the ePub version that is in the PDF version?

  • Hi Sterickson,

Thank you for your interest in our books. We are happy to hear that you will be using them on your iPad.

In response to your question, we do not have a recommendation for a good pdf ----> ePub converter because we believe that in making the conversion, much of the quality of the eBook would be lost. We do recommend using Good Reader, a pdf-reader app with very high quality.

Also, we have been updating most of our eBooks to include ePub format, so you might want to check to make sure that the books which were previously only in pdf aren't already in ePub.

Do you know which titles were only in pdf? The main books we produce for which there is only a pdf format are our Head First series, due to the fact that they are so graphically rich. Otherwise, the majority of our books should already have ePub formats.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or comments.

    Kind regards,
    Sophia

  • There's an online converter for non-drm books
    http://www.2epub.com

However it's impossible to convert PDF books well because PDF is a fixed layout format designed for printing.

  • Sophia,
I have the same question as well - can you please let me know when "Regular Expressions Cookbook" will be available in epub? I just checked, and it is currently only available in PDF.

    Cheers!
