LiveView crashes DreamWeaver CS5.5

When I switch to Live View in Dreamweaver CS5.5, Dreamweaver crashes - what's causing it and how can I fix it?
I own your Missing Manual for DW CS5.5, but I saw no mention of crashing in it.

  • Hi Larry--

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with Dreamweaver. I haven't heard of Live view crashing Dreamweaver before, so I'd like to escalate your question to the author. In the meantime, I just want to check one thing: Once you're in Live view, in order to edit your web pages, you have to exit Live view by going back to Design, Split, or Code view. This trips folks up a lot, and I just want to make sure that isn't the issue you're having. In the meantime, I'll forward this to Dave McFarland.

  • Peter:

    Thanks for the reply!

Allow me to expand my original cry for help.
I used an Adobe publication to tell me how to begin building a new website using DreamWeaver: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweav...

All went well until I got to Step 9, under the Section "Attach the new Style Sheet" (about halfway down the page) --- when I click on "Live Code" (or "Live View" or "Inspect", for that matter), DreamWeaver immediately crashes, and displays a window headed by: "Dreamweaver quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically."

I've also posted a request for help on the Adobe Dreamweaver forum --- go here and see what I've already tried:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/122664...

Hope you can help, I'm feeling pretty upset and depressed about the whole thing!

  • Hi Larry,

The first thing you should try is to restore your preferences for Dreamweaver. Here's an article on how to do that:

  • Dave:

Thanks for the reply --- I've realized that there's one step I neglected --- over the weekend I opened this same website with a different computer, running the same version of Dreamweaver, and Dreamweaver crashed immediately, same as on my laptop.

This ordeal may have occurred simply because something was wrong with my newly-constructed website, not with Dreamweaver. I will, as soon as possible, start a new website to see if starting over solves my problem.

As soon as I've tried this experiment I'll post the results.

    Thanks again,
    Larry
