I’m confused

jquery on firefox, getting errors

I am studying the Missing Manual on Javascript and Jquery, getting errors that $ is not defined on firefox on chapter 6 examples, help. I do not know why. I have enabled Javascript and yet in Firebug, it shows the error.

    Thanks for writing us about this, and I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Are you getting this error on all of the chapter 6 examples, or just specific ones? I checked some, and I don't get an error, so it would help to narrow it down.

    Usually, you get errors like this if jQuery isn't on the page, if you include a script that tries to use jQuery before your jQuery call, or if you have another library on the page that conflicts with jQuery.

    Are you typing up the examples, or using the downloadable files from the website? If you don't have them already, you can download the files from http://examples.oreilly.com/0636920015048/MM_JAVASCRIPT2E.zip

    Let us know if you're still running into errors, and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on.
