Is iMovie the missing manual compatible with the latest version of iMovie?

I just bought this book, and I have IMovie 10.0.7. Already int he first chapter, the screen I have is missing MANY of the items show in the book. There is a whole menu bar in the book at the top of the project window that I can't see -- including the "Single-Row Editing Button" described on page 72??? Is this book going to useful at all if all of those buttons shown in the book no longer exist? Sorry, but this is frustrating.

  • Hi Vince--

Thanks for your note, and I can understand your frustration. I think you may be using the previous edition of iMovie: The Missing Manual to work with the current version of the program, and that's why what you see on-screen doesn't match what you see in the book.

If the book you have is titled iMovie '11 & iDVD: The Missing Manual, you're using the Missing Manual that covers the previous version of iMovie (iMovie 9.0). (And that edition of the book does indeed cover single-row editing on p. 72.)

When Apple released the newest version of iMovie (10.0), we came out with a new edition of the book to cover the changes in the program. The current edition is titled iMovie: The Missing Manual, and it has an orange circle on the cover that says "2014 Release" (see below). (And p. 72 in that edition doesn't mention single-row editing.)

Not to worry, however; we offer a money-back guarantee, and you can return the old edition for a full refund. Please see the details here.

    I hope that helps.

    Best,
    Peter McKie

  • Thanks, Peter. Yes that is no doubt my problem -- this version was the only one I could locate on Amazon or the App store (I swear!).

Shipping the hard cover book back is going to be difficult -- I bought it through Amazon and am willing to bet that the hassle is going to be huge to return it. Can you tell how I can just purchase the correct version? I prefer a hard copy -- iMovie already takes up too much screen to try and have a book window open at the same time.

  • Hi Vince--

There are a couple of places you can get the current edition.

This is the link to buy it from Amazon.

And this is the link to buy it from oreilly.com.

    Best,
    Peter
