I want to read the 1st edition while waiting for the 2nd

If I order the Arduino Cookbook, 2nd edition, can I get at least an electronic copy of the 1st edition while I wait? Why is there no way to upgrade editions for less than buying completely separate books?

  • Hi George,

Thanks for your question. We have a new edition upgrade offer that sounds like what you're looking for. If you have an earlier edition of a book, you can get 40-50% off the price of a newer edition.

If you purchase the ebook from oreilly.com or register the print book at https://members.oreilly.com/account/register/index, when the new edition comes out, you'll see an offer for a 40% upgrade discount off the print book and a 50% upgrade discount off the ebook.

To view a complete list of your registered books and available upgrades, see Your Products page. When a new edition is available, you'll see upgrade buttons, like this:

You can see details of this and other offers on the Membership Benefits page.

  • Thanks, Rachel,

That's good information, and I have registered some of my O'Reilly books already.

But this will be my first Arduino book purchase from O'Reilly so I have nothing registered.

Why can't I buy the forthcoming 2nd edition of the Arduino Cookbook and get the 1st edition's eBook to read while I wait? After all, publishers' schedules aren't all that reliable (my wife is in publishing, so I understand). So, since the 1st edition is already passé in some sense, how about this?

    1. I buy the 2nd edition.

    2. You sell me the eBook of the 1st edition for, say, 70% off.

I'd be paying 30% of the 1st edition's price just to have something to read between now and "November 2011". It actually sounds as if I'd still be paying too much, even if you do agree on this (I'm pretty sure you can't).

Oh well. Thanks for your quick answer.... Guess I'll wait.
