I’m frustrated

I tried to register a book online, but my ISBN wasn't recognized.

I'm trying to register the book "Upgrading to PHP 5" by Adam Trachtenberg. ISBN 0-596-00636-5. I receive the error "Could not find the book(s) you entered. Please check the ISBNs and try again."

  • I’m annoyed
I've just tried to add 5 books (and have a lot more to go..) but the form just won't add them. No error's, i just can't seem to get past 10 books.

  • Hi efoto,

I'm sorry that you weren't able to register your book. It looks like you didn't have the ISBN 13 (you had the old standard, the ISBN 10).

The correct ISBN for Building Scalable Web Sites is 9780596102357, as is shown on the book's catalog page here:

We've tried to clarify the instructions and images on the book registration page. Here's what they currently say:

A unique ISBN identifies the books you are about to register. Please look at the bottom left of the back cover of your book, and identify the ISBN as depicted in the examples below. The ISBN must be 13 characters.

Is there a way that we could make this clearer? Would it be clearer if it said 13 digits, instead of 13 characters? I noticed that your ISBN 10 was formatted with 13 characters, because dashes were included, so I can see how "13 characters" might not have been helpful.

Let us know if you have any problems registering the book with the 13 digit ISBN.

    Have a great day!
