I need an HTML5 book at more of a beginner level
I'm a higher ed instructor who teaches web writing and design that also involves creating basic pages and websites. I need a book that starts from the beginning. I've used the old Head First XHTML which I really like but it's out dated. Is the "HTML5 up and running" a modern version of that? If not, what do you recommend.

Hi,
We are looking at revising the original Head First HTML title so it is more up to date and includes the new semantic/structural elements from HTML5, ideally by late spring next year. (We have also just published Head First HTML5 Programming, but that is a more advanced book that starts where the original leaves off, focusing on building web apps with HTML5 and Javascript.)
Unfortunately, I don't think HTML5 Up and Running would be quite what you need for teaching basic web development from the ground up--it presumes that level of experience and then moves on to cover all the new features and elements of HTML5.
Hopefully the Head First revision will solve your issue, I only wish we could do so sooner!
Cheers,
Courtney-

There are also examples at https://github.com/mislav/diveintohtml5/tree/master/examples.EditDeleteRemove

Hi there.
"HTML5: The Missing Manual" might be the right book for you: http://shop.oreilly.com/product/06369...
It was released in August, so the information in it is current.
I hope that helps.
Best,
