how do I get minutes to show on my quickbooks invoice

How do I get minutes to show on my QuickBooks invoice from the weekly timesheet? I have my preferences set up to minutes, not decimals, and I am entering the minutes as :30, so why are they not showing as minutes? They are showing as decimals.

  • Hi actexas,

Just to clarify, you're saying that you've set your preferences to Minutes instead of Decimal, like this?

Figure 23-9. To display hours and minutes as a decimal number, choose the Decimal option. For example, if you type 15:45 (15 hours and 45 minutes) in a time field, QuickBooks converts the value to 15.75. To display hours and minutes, choose the Minutes option. For this option, QuickBooks displays the entry 5.4 as 5:24.

I found a discussion on the Intuit forums where someone is having the same problem, but I don't see a clear answer from the company. I'll pass your question on to see if we can find the you answer.

  • There doesn't appear to be a way to do that. THe quantity field is a decimal field so QuickBooks converts time to decimals.

There are many questions in the QuickBooks community asking how to do this. One question from 2007 received a few responses from an Intuit person, who then dropped off thethread without answering the question.

  • Since you bill in 15 minute increments, the quantity as a decimal isn't too bad. What I would suggest is creating a custom invoice from the one you use and changing the title of the Quantity column to Hours (Decimal).

If you want to show the hours and minutes, you can customize the invoice to include the Other 1 field as a column and then type the hours and minutes in that cell.

To customize a template, in the Create Invoices window, click Customize (upper right corner). In the Basic Customization dialog box, click Additional Customization. Display the Columns tab and turn on the Other 1 check box.
