Google Play ePub Processing Fails for "Designing Great Web APIs"

When I upload Designing Great Web APIs to Google Play Books to read on my tablet I get a "Processing Failed" error. The Google help docs point me to the ePub Validator here: http://validator.idpf.org/application... which gives an error and a bunch of warnings for the ePub file, (see attached screenshots).

Can a new ePub be created?

  • Hi John,
What kind of tablet is it that you are using? Have you tried any other kinds of ePub reader like Aldiko or are you just using the native Google Play reader?

  • I just uploaded from my laptop to the Google Play Books website - I can't seem to find a way to upload from my tablet, (it's an LG Gpad 8.0 III), so the ePub hasn't touched the tablet yet.

The ePub does load fine into iBooks - that's the only other place I've tried it, I just wanted to read it on a larger screen than my iPhone.

  • Hi John,
We usually recommend Aldiko for android devices, and you can get more information on that here: http://www.aldiko.com/ ,  so you may give that a shot and see if it works well for you.
The reading experience is generally really good (overall a 4 star rating for the android version) . That way, you can download the ePub directly onto your tablet from your oreilly.com account and open it up without having to sideload it from another device.
Otherwise, your user manual for the gpad may have some information about how to sideload the ePub to your device, but not having one, I'm not sure if that's covered.

    Cheers,
    Tai H.
