Effective Modern C++ mobi too big.
Why is the mobi version of Effective Modern C++ 32MB, even though the PDF is 3.3MB? Even in the newly updated version? My Kindle refuses to open an e-book that large, making the e-book rather useless to me.

Hello John,
Thanks for your interest in Effective Modern C++. Let me check in with the ebooks team concerning the size of the mobi file, and I will contact you when I have more information.
Best regards,
Paul

Hello John,
I wish I had a better answer, but unfortunately the size of the mobi can't be reduced.
Best regards,
Paul

I assume the size problem is because of embedded copy of Arial Unicode. The problem with this, as I noted above, is that the Amazon Kindle will not even recognize the book rendering it rather useless. Wouldn't it be possible to offer a version of the book without the embedded copy of Arial so that it can be used with devices like the Kindle?

Interestingly the next largest mobi file in my collection of e-books is only 17MB. So I tried the spiffy send to Kindle service. This took a little while, although that's probably because Amazon converted it or something. However it still will not work with my Kindle. I even logged into my account on Amazon and specifically delivered it to my Kindle, but when I choose "Sync and Check for Items" it tells me there are "No new Items". This is the same behavior as when I manually copied the file to my Kindle. Now this mobi file works with the Kindle desktop software and my other books work with my Kindle so I was merely assuming that the file size if the problem.
Note: I have an e-paper Kindle (the Kindle Voyage to be precise) not one of the Android-based Kindle Fires. -

Hi John,
It sounds like there might be another problem delivering that ebook to your Kindle. I am able to send it to mine without any problems.
Are you sure that the email address for your Kindle in the Manage Your Content and Devices page in your Amazon account is correct for that Kindle?
It can't be sent to the Kindle device if that's not right.
Have you tried "side-loading" the mobi file by plugging your Kindle into your computer and copying the mobi file to the Documents folder on your Kindle?
Best regards,
Chris Olson
