I’m confused

ebook updates confusing

When I get a notification that there is an update available for an ebook I've purchased I often find that the new download is the same as the original, and is not updated. For example, an early release which is now supposed to be a first edition comes down as the early release version again.

Sometimes it's difficult to tell, because the books do not contain a release date. It would be useful if there was always a date of release or update printed in the book, preferably on the page immediately after the front cover.

    Hi Graham,
In your example, which book is it that you're referring to?

The updates that we do aren't always for content, sometimes the updates are for the formatting of the book so that they have better functionality on the various e-readers.

The date of the latest update for a given title is listed in the Ebooks section of your account, here:
    https://members.oreilly.com/account/e...

The date of a reprint to correct important errata and revision history would be available in the book, on the title page with the author information, ISBN, copyright date, etc. This information would be in the Ebook as well as the printed book.
    I hope that helps!

  • Hi Tai, the book is listed as "Web Development with Node and Express", but downloads (ePub) as "Building Websites with Node and Express" and was an early release. The update is supposed to be "Web Development with Node and Express 1st edition", but the original unedited book with its original title downloaded again when I tried to get the update. I'll try again today.
