I’m confused

data.sqlite missing

INTRODUCTION TO FLASK by Miguel, I can't find the data.sqlite. Without it, I'm entirely lost. It's not part of the git repo. Where do i find this?

I'm surprised, no one has asked a question on this. Is it only me who's having this issue?

  • Hi,

Can you tell me which chapter that is from? I need more info to look into this.

I did find this using a google search. Is this what you are looking for - ?

Well, here's what I found - after I posted this. The said file gets created automatically when I run the first example program, and works henceforth.

Now, this is still a matter of confusion for those who're trying to start on learning the technology. The very fact that there're two videos associated with this technology from the same author (Miguel), and that there're no references to each other, is largely the cause of confusion. I believe, for someone starting with the second video (who wants to learn how to construct APIs with python-flask) like I did, this is not at all apparent and hence should be referred back to the first (introduction) video.

  • I have a similar issue (not having watched the first series on Flask). The Web API video seems to skip over actually starting the app. So I figure out to start it by running the run.py in the orders dir. But then when I try to hit the indicated URL, everything is 404. I tried starting it with python run.py but same thing.

  • Sorted it out. The video is working with the local git repo at tag v0.1. If you try to run it after checking out as shown, the local repo is at a much more developed state (and hence the simple /../customers/ bit won't work--it's actually now at /api/v1/customers and requires login). To get it to work, need to checkout to the tag for the first demo: git checkout v0.1

The video seems to gloss over this--in fact, it looks like something switches his environment from master to something else when he runs the command... what is up with that??? Very confusing to someone getting started.
