I’m frustrated

Chasing my tail

Chapter 2 of Creating a Web Site is driving me crazy. When I type a web page as shown on page 37 in Notepad and try to open it in a browser such as Internet Explorer it opens showing all the details as typed in Notepad. I tried saving the file with a ".html" extension but don't seem to be able to do that. Help!!!

  • Hi William,

I'm sorry for the frustration. Notepad is a little funny, so I can understand why you were having trouble changing the file type. It sounds like your file was initially saved as .txt, a plain text file, and so that's what the browser displayed.

To save it as .html, go to File > Save As > enter your desired File name, like myfile.html, and then change the Save as type dropdown that says Text Document to say All Files. This should allow you to save a file with a .html extension, which you should then be able to open in the browser and see the interpreted page instead of text.

    I hope this helps!
