Buying Switching to Mac, should i wait for Mountain Lion edition ?

I want to buy the missing manual Switching to the Mac Lion edition. I am moving from PC to Mac Book Air right now. Since Mountain Lion was just released should i wait for a Switching to the Mac Mountain Lion edition ? I would like to buy the book now, I need it now. If i buy Switching to the Mac Lion edition will it be obsolete when i upgrade to Mountain Lion OS.

    Hi Matt,
The Lion edition book will have significant differences from what the Mountain Lion book would have, so if you need a book immediately I would recommend this one :
    http://shop.oreilly.com/product/06369...
It's currently the most comprehensive book we have on Mountain Lion. It's currently only available as an eBook, but the print book should be released on Aug 10th.

  • I have the same question, but since I am not familiar at all with how the Mac OS works, I liked the idea of the Switching to Mac book since it would explain how to do what I need in the Mac from what I know in Windows... I would think the Mountain Lion book just talks about the features of that OS and not any comparison to Windows. So I wonder if perhaps I should get both? Or will there be a Switching to Mac Mountain Lion book coming out soon?
    • Hi Susan,
There hasn't been a Mountain Lion edition of the "Switching to" series that has been announced at this time (at least the TidBits version). However, there should be a "Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Mountain Lion Edition" that is due out sometime later this year. It hasn't been officially announced yet and I don't have a release date, but I'd keep an eye out for it later in the year.

      Cheers

  • Tai thank you. Will the Mountain Lion book that you recommended cover the same issues for people switching from PC to Mac, like the "Switching to Mac Lion edition" does?? I will be a first time Mac user and will need the guidance for moving documents and files over from the PC to the new Mac. And the explanations of the differences between PC and Mac in the "switching to mac" book will be helpful. If the Mountain Lion book you recommended covers these things, that is great.
    thank you.

  • Hi Matt,
Indeed, it will cover many of the same issues, but be more specific to the Mountain Lion OS.
