Best Way to Add O'Reilly e-Books to Kindle Reader

I really like O'Reilly books and how well they are supported. I get most of my technical books as e-books and Kindle is my favorite e-Reader.
I would like to know how best to combine the two.
For example, I recently bought "Wordpress Development Cookbook" and downloaded the .mobi file and copied it into my "My Kindle Content" folder where all my Kindle content resides and syncs with my iPad. After sync, the iPad Kindle app shows it in its "Docs" tab instead of its "Books" tab.
My question is: Am I using the best procedure for adding O'Reilly books to my Kindle Reader library?

  • Greetings,

I'd be happy to try and help even though I'm not an expert on using the Kindle app for iPad. As long as you can access the O'Reilly ebook on your iPad through the Kindle app I don't think it should matter if it is in your "Docs" tab as opposed to the "Books" tab.

If you need further assistance organizing your ebooks using the Kindle App for you iPad please go here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custome.... Have a great day!

    Hello Paul.
You are correct. It doesn't matter that the O'Reilly books show in the "Docs" tab. I was more concerned about the number of steps required to get the book there after the purchase. I discovered after my post that O'Reilly has a much better process than I was using, which was:
    1. Download the mobi file
    2. Copy it to the ebooks folder
    3. Sync the iPad (which does not get Kindle books)
    4. In iTunes, click Apps>Kindle>Add and locate my e-book file to add it in
    5. Sync wait for it to sync to the iPad
    But Now...
    1. I buy the book and click "Send To Kindle" and viola! It appears in the Kindle app on my iPad.
The setup to be able to do this was simple:
    1. Sign in to my O'Reilly account
    2. Follow the instructions under "Kindle Settings"

  • Greetings,

You can also set your account to send new purchases automatically by checking the Send New Ebooks checkbox in the Kindle Settings. Have a fantastic day!

  • Hi Paul

I'd like to ask for some related assistance, using the 'Send to Kindle' option when I buy an e-book for Kindle using the O'Reilly website.

For some reason my e-books are not showing up in my Kindle library - i.e. when Iog into the Kindle section on the Amazon website, I can't find the books purchased through O'Reilly on this list for my Kindle :'(

Please could you advise? Do I need to download them to a computer of some sort, and e-mail them to my Kindle in order for them to show up?

Also, do you have any fix for the multiple copies of the same e-book appearing on the Kindle - as per another thread...? https://c.getsatisfaction.com/oreilly...

Having to send the Mobi file via e-mail (in order to show up in the Kindle library) would mean I would have a third copy of the same book... :-(

I would like to have the books in the Library so my highlights show up online at kindle.amazon.com, and also to keep track of my e-books more effectively.

    Thank you very much

    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

I'd be happy to try and help. Even though I'm not an expert in the functionality of the Kindle from what I understand from assisting others is when using the Send to Kindle option the ebook will end up in your downloads.

When you are seeing multiple copies of the same ebook appearing on your Kindle are you using the Send to Kindle option? Also, which version of the Kindle are you using? Once I have more information I can forward this to the appropriate team so they can investigate this.
