Amending Print Default Settings in Mountain Lion

Hope this is right place to ask technical question not answered in tmm OSX Mountain Lion. The Default Setting in Print on my MacMini is Landscape for some reason and try as I might I can't get it to change - I don't want to go to a Preset as this is an extra action that I want to avoid given that 99.9% of what I print is Portrait. Any suggestions, I have tried web search but have found nothing that answers my query though surely it should be possible to edit a Default setting. Thanks.

  • Hello Gyanmurti,

I'm not an expert in this, but I would be happy to try and help. I found this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10768?v... which explains:

Use the Default Settings preset unless you change it

"By default, when you use the Print dialog, the selected preset is the last preset you used. However, you can choose to use the Default Settings preset every time you print, unless you change it.

Choose Show Presets from the Presets pop-up menu.
Select “Reset Presets Menu to ‘Default Settings’ After Printing.”

I hope this helps, and have a great day!

  • Thanks Paul

This one didn't quite work as the problem resides in the Default settings themselves. Not to worry, thanks to your prompt I went and dug a bit deeper in apple.support and found a solution that appears to work - a bit of a work around where you would expect a simple solution but there you go. Here is the thread that gives the answer: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/... - see the solution from Fontanitum that I have just used and which works. Given the number of queries (mostly unanswered) I have found in the various blogs about this issue it would be worth including it as part of a topic in any updates of the Missing Manuals on OSX.

Thanks again for your help, you put me in the right direction

You have a good day, mine is good now.

    Best wishes
