Alternator Blues

I lived in Oklahoma for a short time in 2012. My alternator went out and the auto mechanic I went to purchased a new one from O'Reilly's. That mechanic is now retired and shop closed. I do not have the receipt for the alternator but my mechanic here in Wichita, KS says the alternator is yours. It is going out and needs to be replaced. It is supposed to have a lifetime warranty on it. I have called your customer service help line, they say I need a receipt and when and where purchased. Shouldn't the number and code on alternator tell the store in Enid, OK that it was indeed bought from them between August - October 2012? I even know the name of the business that purchased it I am getting very frustrated.
