Alternatives to Dropbox and Kindle

Will O'Reilly consider syncing e-books with services other than Dropbox and Kindle? How long would it take to support OwnCloud, for example?

  • Hello David,

Yes, we're definitely interested in additional services. We chose Dropbox, Kindle, and Google Drive based on customer demand. I'm not aware of requests for OwnCloud though I could have missed some. We'll note your vote for OwnBox and see what other customers request. Consider this an open poll.

    Thanks for writing. --Allen

  • Hi, Allen. Has there been any movement toward other syncing services like OwnCloud? Or other WebDAV services?

Please also consider syncing to privacy preserving services like SpiderOak. I think that will resonate with quite a few of your customers given the controversy over Dropbox hiring Condoleeza Rice to its board of directors in April of 2014. I don't know if O'Reilly Media agrees with the DropDropbox campaign but it's likely that many of its customers do.
