advance copy for edit

I am wondering whether it is possible for me to purchase an advance copy of the PHP/MySQL Head First book. I am a big fan of the series and I am also a hobbyist developer and enjoy developing applications (web or otherwise) for Linux. I have read Head First: Java, C#, HTML with CSS & XHTML, and Javascript. I am a sharp reader and can help edit the book, submit errata, etc. I have editing experience and currently work as an editor at the University of South Florida preparing Biophysics papers for publication.

Thanks for your time,
Michael

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks very much for your interest in being an advance reviewer of Head First PHP & MySQL. We're actually finishing up the technical review process right now, so unfortunately we're not looking for additional reviewers at this time.

However, the good news is that the book is scheduled for release in October, so you don't have to wait much longer to get your hands on a copy. Also, I don't know if you've downloaded this already, but we currently have a brief excerpt from Chapter 5 of the book up on the book's web site. You can access it here:

Again, thanks very much for your interest in the book. It's great to hear from such loyal fans of the series.

  • Michael-

I'd like to add that we're working on a project to include Head First titles in our Rough Cuts program-- a service from Safari Books Online that gives you early access to content. Because of the complex layout in each Head First title, it's taking us some time to figure out how to provide early access via the Rough Cuts program. We'll announce the inclusion of future books in the Rough Cuts program in our Head First newsletter and on headfirstlabs.com. Also, if you're interested in becoming a technical reviewer for other Head First titles, email karens at oreilly dot com.
