3 for 2 offer with PDF & Book bundles costs more then bundles alone??

So, I want to buy 3 books with the PDF's but it seems that if you try to do this and take advantage of the 3 for 2 deal you get totally hosed and it charges you full price for the PDF's. My $60 book order turns into a $110 order when I apply OPD10 as a coupon. If I just buy just the books it's like $50. If I use the bundle code It's like $98. So is there any way to get the 3 for 2 deal on this? Or should I just buy the book and see if the PDF's I want are just randomly available on usenet somewhere? Now way I'm gonna pay 2X the price when the total add-on price of the PDF's normally are only about $10.

  • Hello Christr,

As you've noticed we have a number of discounting options available, and you're citing two specifically; our bundle pricing, where you currently receive the print and electroinic book for 1.1 times the list price of the book, and our Buy 2, Get 1 Free offer, where you receive the equivalent of one free book when you purchase at least three (the discount is pro-rated across the items purchased). As you've noticed, if you want to purchase both the print and electronic versions of a book, our bundle pricing winds up being a higher discount. It sounds as though you're asking us to apply the B2G1F discount on top of the bundle discount. Depending on the mix of books ordered, that would be a 60% discount, and we'd lose money.

    I hope you understand.

    Regards, --Allen

  • Why would you lose money? The bundles seem at least to me to grant the buyer of the book the electronic copy of the same book for a few bucks more. (makes perfect sense). So how is it that you lose money doing the buy 2, 1 free deal on the books? If that was the case you'd lose money just selling the books that way also. I think the main problem is how you apply the discounts. You should should probably sell the bundles as their own SKU or part number and then the free book deal should be based on the books, not an all-around discount. Buy 2 books, get the the 3rd of equal or lesser value free. In my case I'd save like $14 since I had a couple of higher priced book and one cheapo. So I had expected to just get the cheapo book, pay for the PDF add-ons and go.

Strange system. It was just weird to see that I could buy the books alone for around $50 with the 3 for 2 deal. The books & PDF's using the bundle code for around $90 and the 3 for 2 deal on the books & PDF's came in over $110. I was half expecting since the bundle deal added only $10 to the original cost of the books that I would see about the same increase in the 3 for 2 deal. (get a book free, pay for 2 books and 3 sets of PDF add-ons).

Oh well. I'll probably just get the books.. the PDF's were for convenience.

    thanks,

  • I’m not best pleased
Sounds a bit like the passage from an Alice book, " ..eggs for $ yesterday, eggs for $ tomorrow, never eggs today..." The .pdfs are for convenience. One upload by the publisher, after so many paid downloads, it is money for free.
